It's a Boat! It's a Plane! It's a… Blimp? It's Time to List Individual & Business Personal Property

Any person or business that owns property such as boats, aircraft, mobile homes, or income-producing property such as equipment, machinery or furniture associated with a business must list the property for tax purposes with the Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office between Jan.1, 2024, and Jan. 31, 2024. Individual and business personal property is taxed at the FY 2024 property tax rates set by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, the Charlotte City Council, and town boards.

Mpox Asvisory Dec. 22, 2023

Although the overall incidence of mpox cases in Mecklenburg County has declined since 2022, there has been a recent increase in new cases. Mecklenburg County Public Health is issuing a health advisory to prompt providers to include mpox as part of their differential diagnosis for all patients who exhibit clinically consistent symptoms.

Help with Heating Bills: All Applications Accepted Beginning Jan. 1

Mecklenburg County residents who have trouble paying their winter heating bills can get help through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). The program will begin taking applications from all residents beginning Jan. 1. Seniors and disabled individuals have had the opportunity to apply throughout December. The deadline for all residents to apply is March 31, 2024.

Recycle Right: Only You Can Prevent Trash Fires

Holiday time is also “trash fire season” for us in Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling. Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day, there is a general increase in household waste. With that, we see more fires in our trash recycling systems due to “wishful recycling.”

Mecklenburg County Public Health will now permit more bars that serve food in Mecklenburg County as Session Law 2023-129, sec 16 (HB 125) goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2024.
