Mecklenburg County will mail 2024 bills for real property, individual personal property, and business personal property taxes by July 31, 2024. Bills are due Sept. 1, 2024, and must be paid by Jan. 6, 2025, to avoid interest.

Neal Dixon, Tax Collector for Mecklenburg County, will be retiring at the end of July. After serving the County for nearly 30 years, Neal has been an invaluable part of countless projects and will leave an enduring legacy.  

The Charlotte Business Journal (CBJ) has named Mecklenburg County’s chief financial officer, David Boyd, the 2024 Chief Financial Officer of the Year for a Civic/Government Organization. Boyd was honored at CBJ’s 2024 CFO of the Year Awards ceremony on Thursday, July 18.  

Mecklenburg County has been recognized with eight 2024 Achievement Awards from the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO). NACIO honors the innovative, creative and outstanding work of county government communicators throughout the nation.  

The Helping Out Mecklenburg homeowners with Economic Support (HOMES) Program returns for another season, which began July 1, 2024. Mecklenburg County is partnering again with the City of Charlotte to help homeowners struggling with the rising costs of living.

Many veterans return from their service carrying trauma. That is why Mecklenburg County Veterans Services is taking part in the North Carolina Governor’s Challenge, to prevent and reduce suicide among transitioning service members, veterans, and their families. Veterans in Mecklenburg County and across the state are invited to become a “Battle Buddy,” someone who ensures you are never alone. The N.C. Governor Challenge training is free and open to anyone in the community who wants to grow as an expert companion to service members, veterans, caregivers, and their families. 

On Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, additional resources will be available in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to help vulnerable residents cope with the extreme heat.
