Preventing the spread of disease and promoting personal safety through proper sanitation, safe food, clean water, the management of disease-carrying pests and proper disposal of waste.

Provides plan review, permitting, and evaluation of child care and adult day service centers, family child care homes, lodging establishments, public and private school buildings, care institutions (nursing homes, hospitals, assisted-living facilities), residential care and local confinement facilities, and mental health, disability, and substance abuse facilities.  

Reviews and grants approval for plans to construct and operate any new or remodeled establishment. 

Investigates animal-inflicted injuries to humans and/or their pets (e.g., bites, scratches), provides consultative services to the public and medical community regarding zoonotic diseases and rabies exposures, and works closely with Animal Care and Control of Charlotte, Huntersville, Cornelius, and Matthews. Rabies Surveillance.

Gives parents the practical skills they need to build strong family relationships, manage and prevent misbehavior problems.

Cultivates a collaborative environment to better align community health worker program initiatives in Mecklenburg County through the assembly of stakeholders that are deeply invested in the profession.

Provides comprehensive family planning and reproductive health services.

Free on-site screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections at Public Health clinics.

Offers many services, including Children’s Developmental Services Agency and Women, Infants & Children (WIC). 

Increasing and improving the number of tobacco-free environments and preventing youth tobacco use.
