Operation Green Light: Shine a Light in Support of Veterans on Nov. 11

Saturday, Nov. 11 is a day to honor veterans who have served and their families. To demonstrate its support on Veterans Day, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community is asked to shine a green light at home, while the Charlotte skyline is illuminated in green. It’s Operation Green Light, a national initiative to support military veterans, and raise awareness of their unique challenges and resources available from Mecklenburg County Veterans Services and other local, state and national partners.

Any person or business that owns property such as boats, aircraft, mobile homes, or income-producing property such as equipment, machinery or furniture associated with a business must list the property for tax purposes with the Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office between Jan.1, 2024, and Jan. 31, 2024. Individual and business personal property is taxed at the FY 2024 property tax rates set by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, the Charlotte City Council, and town boards.

Two Mecklenburg County students are back home after representing thousands of middle school students across our community in Washington, D.C. as National Ambassadors in the Do the Write Thing challenge. Michael Ndomateso Tadi from Coulwood STEM Academy and Aaliyah Williams-Camp from Eastway Middle School are the 2023 ambassadors of the annual essay challenge where students share their personal experiences with violence and ideas for prevention.
