Mecklenburg County Public Health is celebrating the 50th Edible Landscape built in the county with an event at the first Edible Landscape – Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. The 50th Edible Landscape location is at Habitat for Humanity. Edible Landscapes is a program that establishes community gardens and orchards to provide fresh fruits and vegetables in food insecure neighborhoods. As additional landscapes continue to be installed, this 50th milestone marks not only the number of builds but the growing impact of shared stewardship and collective action in addressing food security across the county.

These are interactive sessions aimed at collecting community input for the development of the Consolidated Plan. This workshop invites residents, local leaders, non-profit organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to engage in discussions about the future of the community. The focus will be on addressing the community's needs in housing, economic development, and overall community growth.

The internal focus group includes County staff and public service providers to collect insights and expert opinions on local housing, infrastructure, and community development needs.

The external focus group consists of representatives from non-profit organizations, advocacy groups, and other external stakeholders. Their role is to provide input and feedback on the housing, community development, and economic needs of the population, particularly for those most affected by poverty, housing instability, and other community challenges.

It is a crucial event to launch the planning process for the upcoming fiscal year’s CDBG funding cycle. Information will be provided to potential applicants about regulatory program components, and milestones. This is not a Consolidated Plan activity but a CDBG Program activity.
