Today the water quality advisory was lifted that urged lake users to exercise caution when coming into contact with flood waters in Catawba River lakes in Mecklenburg County.
On June 11, 2019, unusually high water levels resulting in increased water pollution led Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services to issue the water quality advisory for Mountain Island Lake, Lake Wylie and Lake Norman in Mecklenburg County due to potential human health concerns.
The advisory was lifted when monitoring performed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services revealed water quality conditions had returned to normal.
Staff with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services warn that all flood waters have increased water pollution and pose a greater risk to swimmers; therefore, contact with these waters should be always be avoided.
