Mecklenburg County Criminal Justice Services will host a bail reform forum on Friday, June 23, 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the meeting chamber of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center. This Safety & Justice public conference is titled "Assessing the Role of Money in the Criminal Justice System." It is free and open to the public.
The forum will feature a pair of nationally recognized speakers. Timothy R. Schnacke is a criminal justice system analyst with nearly thirty years of legal experience. He serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Legal and Evidence-Based Practices and is an expert in pretrial release and detention, as well as the implementation of bail policy reform.
Mitali Nagrecha is an attorney with more than seven years of experience working on criminal justice policy issues. She has recently published "When All Else Fails, Fining the Family," which provides first-person accounts of people with criminal justice debt.
