A smoky fire at the site of the Memorial Stadium renovation is under control.
A contractor was in process of tearing down one of the last pieces of the stadium -- an old press box -- when they struck an electrical wire that was still connected. This caused a great deal of smoke and some fire which was quickly extinguished by Charlotte Fire Department (CFD). CFD is on the scene, along with the contractor, making certain all sources of electricity are cut going forward. There were no injuries.
Memorial Stadium and the Grady Cole Center are currently closed to the public due to ongoing improvements of the stadium
