BOCCCommissioner Leake to Host Town Hall Meeting for Seniors May 30

District 2 County Commissioner Vilma D. Leake will hold her third town hall meeting for seniors on Thursday, May 30, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Valerie C. Woodard Conference Center, 3205 Freedom Drive, Suite 4000, Charlotte.

During the event, County representatives will share information on several County programs and services available to seniors. Topics include:

  • Public Health services
  • The Department of Social Services Senior Nutrition Program
  • Park and Recreation programs for seniors
  • County Assessor’s Office
  • Options for voting
  • And much more!

Lunch will be served following the meeting. Free parking will be available at the Valerie C. Woodard Center.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Public Art Dedication Set for Thursday at Valerie C. Woodard Center

This Thursday, May 16, Mecklenburg County will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and public art dedication at the newly renovated Ashley Wing of the Valerie C. Woodard Center, 3205 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. Commissioners are invited to the event, which will take place from 1-2 p.m. Free parking will be available onsite. 

The ceremony will feature the Pledge of Allegiance led by our Veterans Services Division and brief remarks from District 2 Commissioner Vilma D. Leake and a representative from the Public Art Commission. I am also planning to attend and will deliver remarks as well. 

The Valerie C. Woodard Center is home to many County services, including Community Support Services, the County Assessor’s Office, Office of the Tax Collector and the County’s first Community Resource Center.

#WalkCLT Returns May 31

Livable Meck and several community partners are encouraging residents and visitors to explore the FreeMoreWest area on foot during the annual #WalkCLT event on May 31. The free event is from 5-8 p.m. Check-in will take place at 1518 Bryant St. Charlotte.

The #WalkCLT initiative aims to promote walking as a mode of transportation and the many social, environmental and economic benefits it generates for our community.
