​Important Information Regarding Health Incident from July 1


Tuesday, July, 3, 4 p.m.

People complaining of stomach problems continue to seek medical treatment following a cookout in East Charlotte last weekend.

Almost half of the estimated crowd of 100 attendees have come to Novant and Atrium hospitals for treatment. A few have been hospitalized. 

Public Health continues to investigate the incident with our partners at the State Division of Public Health.

Monday, July 2

Due to the illness experienced by a number attending the neighborhood birthday party at the Forest Hills Apartments in East Charlotte on Saturday, June 30, all those attending the event should: 

  • Not eat any food that you may have taken home from the party.
  • Wash their hands. 
    • Before preparing or eating food
    • Before touching your eyes, nose, or mouth
    • After using the restroom
    • After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing
  • Seek medical attention if you experience these symptoms
    • Loose bowel movements that may contain blood or mucous
    • Fever
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Stomach cramps
  • Also, if you have food that was served at the event, please keep it refrigerated and contact Environmental Health at 980-314-9400.  Someone will be in touch with you to pick it up.
