After seeing an increase in hepatitis A cases locally last year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) determined that the County is experiencing an outbreak of hepatitis A.
Since the outbreak was determined (April 20, 2018) there have been 40 cases of hepatitis A in the County. Most recently, the Public Health Department worked to immunize passengers that were exposed on an American Airlines flight from San Francisco to Charlotte on Sept. 21. Working with the CDC and American Airlines, Public Health vaccinated all passengers that reside in Mecklenburg County. This exposure does NOT pose a risk locally. For information about passengers who do not reside in the County or other questions about the exposure, please contact the CDC.
