COVID-19 Booster for 5 to 11 Year Olds Available Now

Mecklenburg County, NCMecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH) is offering the COVID-19 booster to 5 to 11 year olds starting today, Monday, May 23. Children ages 5 to 11 years old can receive a COVID-19 booster five months after the date of their most recent COVID-19 vaccine dose. The Pfizer booster is the only brand currently available to children ages 5 to 11.
“The booster for children 5 to11 years old comes at an opportune time,” said Paige Bennett, MCPH Deputy Director. “The booster provides a significant increase in protection against serious illness, hospitalization, death and long-term complications from COVID-19 ahead of summer activities like vacations, camps and play dates.”
The best protection against COVID-19 is prevention. Make sure you and your family are up to date on vaccines and boosters. That means everyone 5 years old and up should have a booster vaccine when eligible. People 50 and over who received their third dose of the vaccine more than four months ago are eligible for a fourth dose.
Booster shots are available at both Public Health Department locations (Southeast Health Department, 249 Billingsley Road, Charlotte and Northwest Health Department, 2845 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte) as well as provider locations, pharmacies, and community clinics and events.
