​COVID 19:  Services Update


As of July 1, 2021, the Department of Social Services will reopen its lobbies to customers wishing to apply for services in-person.  Customers may continue to apply for services by telephone, mail, fax, or online. If you want to file an application for benefits by phone, call 704-336-3000. The fax number is 704-353-1325.

Please visit our All ACCESS POINT https://allaccess.mecknc.gov to apply for benefits, submit documents for existing cases and much more. 

Customers can still use the drop boxes located at each facility to return paperwork or drop off paper applications.

If you want to file an appeal or report a change, you can do that by calling 704-336-3000. If you have an emergency, be sure to mention that when you call.



Adult and Family & Children's Medicaid
Customers can apply in person or online. If you choose to submit an application online, a DSS employee will contact you to complete an interview.

Energy Assistance, Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) / LIEAP Energy Program

Customers can apply online, in person or complete a mail-in application. To receive a mail-in application, call 704-336-3000.

Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) – Intake & Redeterminations
Customers can apply in-person but we encourage customers to apply online or through the mail for all applications and recertifications. To receive a mail-in application and assistance in applying for benefits, call 704-336-3000. Recertification paperwork is automatically mailed to the customer's last known mailing address if a recertification is due. Completed recertification packets should be mailed to 301 Billingsley Rd Charlotte NC 28211. If recertification paperwork was not received and the case is due for recertification, customers can complete the process online. Customers can also call Customer Connect at 704-336-3000 for recertification assistance.

Food & Nutrition Employment Training Program
Customers interested in participating in the FNS Employment and Training program should contact Customer Connect at 704-336-3000 or email FNSEmploymentreferral@mecklenburgcountync.gov 

Food Pantry
Services will resume with pre-packaged boxes at DSS buildings. Customers can call Customer Connect at 704-336-3000 for assistance.

Mecklenburg Transportation Services (MTS)
For transportation scheduling, call 704-336-4547.

Senior Citizen Nutrition Program (SCNP)

All SCNP Congregate Nutrition Programs at county Park & Rec sites will reopen for congregate meals on July 1.

Non-county owned congregate sites will reopen based on the guidelines for each facility.  Some facilities will remain closed through the summer due to other summer programming.  Participants will have the choice to select another site or receive home-delivered meals.

The temporary COVID-19 Grab and Go sites will continue to operate through at least December 31st, 2021.

Work First Employment Services

Employment Services Social Workers are available to assist able bodied adults recieving cash assistance with job readiness, skills training and employment search.  Call 704-336-3000 for more information.

Work First Family Assistance
Customers wishing to apply for Work First Family Assistance should contact Customer Connect at 704-336-3000 to have an application mailed to them. Interviews will be conducted by phone.  Completed applications can be mailed back or left in the outside drop box at DSS at 301 Billingsley Rd Charlotte NC 28211. 

Youth and Family Services 
All child protection services have returned to normal operations.
