Commissioner Jim Puckett is currently serving his fifth term on the BOCC. He was first elected in 2000 and served until 2006, then re-elected in 2014 and 2016. He previously served as the District 1 representative on the CMS Board of Education as well as co-chair of the Lake Norman Charter School Board. Puckett served as the first chair of the Centralina Economic Development Commission, and served on the WTVI Board of Directors. He is currently the vice chair of the BOCC, and serves on the Manager’s Review, Intergovernmental, and Economic Development committees.
Puckett owns an industrial electrostatic paint and a commercial ceiling cleaning company. He graduated from UNCC with a degree in business (marketing and management). He is married, has two adult daughters and lives in Huntersville.
Puckett is proud of his family’s long 260-year history in Mecklenburg County as well as being a descendant of two signers of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. He enjoys sailing, history and celebrating his Scottish heritage, as evidenced in his long-time service on the Loch Norman Highland Games Board of Directors and the GOT KILT sticker on the rear of his vehicle.
