September-October 2021

Dance for All Abilities (For all ages with a disability)

Join us for a HYBRID therapeutic and inclusive dance class hosted by The Charlotte Ballet. The program meets virtually on Thursdays, starting July 8th - Sept 2nd from 5-6pm.

Beginning Sept 9-Dec 30, the program will shift to in person at Marion Diehl Recreation Center (2219 Tyvola Road) on Thursdays from 1-2pm. The class will become HYBRID, which will allow participants to choose whether to attend class in person at Marion Diehl Rec Center, or log on from home virtually. FREE! Sponsored by the Arts and Science Council Culture Blocks.

E-Gaming: Mario Mashup (Ages 13+ with a disability)

It's a literal Mario Party! All participants much have a Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite system, Game: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros & Super Mario Party, internet access, Nintendo Switch Online membership. Join us as we celebrate Blind Sports & White Cane Day the best way we know how - offering a variety of visually impaired/blind sports, activities, and informational vendors. Come try out goalball, yoga, soccer, running, tennis, cycling, & more! Lunch is provided to those that pre-register. FREE!

City Cyclists (Ages 18+ with a disability)

Calling all cyclers! Let's hit the greenways on our bikes! Please wear athletic clothing, sneakers, and bring a refillable water bottle. Participants are required to provide their own bicycle and helmet. A limited amount of handcycles are available for use. Cost is $25. We'll meet on Mondays Oct 4-25, from 3:30-4:30pm at:

This program will explore a variety of art medium and techniques. During each class, participants will create original art pieces using the skills that they learn and develop. Disc Golf Club (Ages 18+ of all abilities)

In this inclusive Disc Golf Club, community members of all abilities will learn basic tips and rules of disc golf while playing on Eastway's newly constructed disc golf course. Boo! Calling all artists and Halloween lovers! Let's get creative and paint something festive for the holiday! Join us for step-by-step instruction on this themed paint-along program. All materials and step-by-step instruction will be provided so you are able to let your true artistic abilities shine. Enjoy the great outdoors by hiking one Mecklenburg County's beautiful accessible trails. After our hike, we'll have a picnic and take in the scenery while socializing with friends. You're in good hands joining this new team! All skill levels are welcome as we offer our first season of adaptive handball. We will break down the basics of throwing, catching, team work, and scrimmaging. Did you know working on jigsaw puzzles helps exercise both sides of your brain, improve short-term memory, improve visual-spatial reasoning, and more?! Join us for our first ever jigsaw puzzle group! Soundball- Adults (Ages 18+ who are blind or have a visual impairment)

Soundball, also known as blind tennis, is played on a standard tennis court using a junior tennis racket and an adapted sponge ball that makes a noise when it bounces. We'll learn the fundamentals of soundball tennis such as tracking, judging the direction and height of the ball from the bounce, and learn to move to the ball and make contact with the racquet. Please bring a tennis racket if you have one! We'll meet in the gym at Marion Diehl Recreation Center (2219 Tyvola Road) on Saturdays, Nov 13-Dec 18th from 12:30-1:30p. Free!
