Mecklenburg County’s Solid Waste is a division of the County’s Land Use & Environmental Services Agency (LUESA).
Mecklenburg County processes waste and recyclables collected by the City of Charlotte and the Towns located in the County.
Mecklenburg County DOES NOT collect the curbside materials. Collection at your home is the responsibility of the municipality in which you live. If you live in an un-incorporated area of Mecklenburg County and you desire curbside collection, you will need to contact one of the licensed waste haulers and pay separately for curbside service.
The Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Division is comprised of a variety of branches responsible for many County-wide solid waste services. These services include the management and operation of the four full service convenience centers, where you can recycle or throw away unwanted items and trash. These sites are open six days a week for your convenience. Note, there are charges for disposing of trash, yard debris and construction debris. Our program also operates and services eight recycle drop-off locations (for small recyclables only) and supports other recycling drop centers located at commercial businesses.
Our focus is reducing waste, while providing convenient service locations for you to use. At our sites, you will be required to separate materials, as many items go to different places for recycling or future re-use. Items such as concrete and clean drywall and logs/branches need to be separated, as we will grind them for re-use in other applications, rather than landfilling them.
