Many residents in Mecklenburg County use wells as their primary source of water and septic tanks to handle waste water. For the safety of citizens and of the environment, Mecklenburg County issues permits for and conducts inspections of wells and septic tanks.
Before beginning construction you must apply for and obtain a well permit and/or a septic system permit from Mecklenburg County Groundwater & Wastewater Services. All applications must be accompanied by a detailed site plan and the applicable fee. Once you receive your permit/s, select a certified well contractor and/or a registered septic contractor to perform the installation/s in accordance with the permit/s issued.
