Change for Life: Tobacco Free Recovery is the promise of a future. As a call from within or from a community of support, "change for life" opens the door to aspiration and healing. As a program of holistic recovery spearheaded by a coalition of Mecklenburg County behavioral health partners, including substance use disorder and mental health treatment agencies and health systems, Change for Life: Tobacco-Free Recovery draws from evidence-based research demonstrating that integrating tobacco use treatment into programs for substance use disorder and mental health conditions boosts an individual's chances of long-term recovery while dramatically reducing his or her risks for cancers, heart disease, lung disease and other serious health conditions.
Change for Life: Tobacco-Free Recovery insists that all addictions are treatable. It poses the question, "Why should a person be only half free?" If someone suffers from the significant physical, emotional and financial costs of smoking and substance abuse, he or she has the right – the need – to be free of both. Change for Life: Tobacco-Free Recovery makes that possible.
