Grants and all allotments from the federal and State governments for FY 2010 comprised
15.2% of total revenues as compared to 15.5% in FY 2009. The dollar value of grants in FY 2010 was
$192 million compared with $199.4 million in FY 2009, a 4% decrease. Intergovernmental revenues are likely to decline further in 2011, due in part to the scheduled expiration of temporary Stimulus funds in FY 2011 resulting in a $15-million revenue loss.
In fiscal year 2010, grant funding supported
172 service programs compared with
205 programs in 2009. Although fewer programs were funded in 2010, the remaining programs maintain a relatively high level of funding. This allows the County to address the growing demand for services while minimizing local costs. Mecklenburg County will continue to aggressively seek future competitive grants from outside sources despite anticipated losses in state/federal funding.
