Vision

We envision all people in Mecklenburg County will have an equitable opportunity to thrive in the workplace and in the community. 

Vision Statement

Equity within the workplace and community is enhanced by instilling principles of racial equity within systems, policies and practices. 

The County brings together resources through partnerships to identify and address community problems such as economic opportunity, community safety, access to health and human services, education and affordable housing. Mecklenburg County provides equitable access to resources, services, and opportunities that allow for inclusion and the upward mobility of all community members. The County also strives to invest in its employees through diverse hiring, educational and promotional practices. Mecklenburg County will be a diverse, equitable and inclusive place for people to live, work, learn and recreate to reflect the community it serves.

Defining Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Diversity... represents the uniqueness of individuals, groups and relationships. This uniqueness reflects the differences and similarities in human attributes, values, beliefs, behavior, orientations, norms and experiences.

Equity... is proactive, strategic approach that accounts for the structural differences in opportunities, burdens and needs to improve outcomes for all.

Inclusion... is a process of fostering collaboration, flexibility and fairness to ensure employees feel valued for their unique qualities and experiences to contribute their views and ideas to their full potential.
