With temperatures heating up and spring fast approaching, now is the time to sign up your child for Park and Recreation’s spring youth baseball and track and field leagues. Registration takes place now through Feb. 28. Practice will begin in March for both sports. The season will begin March 30 for baseball and April 14 for track and field.
Youth Baseball Age range: 5-12 (T-ball, ages 5-6; machine pitch, ages 7-8; player pitch, ages 9-10 and 11-12 in separate divisions)Registration fee: Ranges from $55 – 65 (includes a team uniform, socks and a cap)
Practice includes a pre-season instructional clinic for each age range on March 23. Games and the clinic will take place on Saturdays at Revolution Park. Some games may also take place on Friday nights.
Track and FieldAge range: 5-18Registration fee: $65 (includes a uniform)
Meets occur Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons at the Irwin Belk Complex located at Johnson C. Smith University.
To register for baseball or track and field, visit www.parkandrec.com, click on “Eparks 2.0,” select “Recreation Activities,” click “Athletics” and select the desired offering. You can also call or visit a recreation center, and staff can assist you.
If you plan to register online or by phone, please pay with either a Visa or Mastercard. Full payment is due at registration, which is first come, first served.
If you like baseball or track and field and working with kids, then consider volunteering as a youth coach. All Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation coaches undergo a background check by the department. If you are interested in being a volunteer coach, please contact the recreation center closest to you.
