​Public Can Comment on County's FY23 Budget

The public will have an opportunity to provide input on Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio's budget recommendations for Fiscal Year 2023 before the budget is adopted by the Board of County Commissioners.

A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. in the Meeting Chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 East Fourth Street, Charlotte, NC  28202.

The Board of County Commissioners has scheduled straw vote sessions for June 15 and 16. The Board is scheduled to adopt the FY2023 budget at its regular meeting on June 22 at 6 p.m.

County Manager Dena R. Diorio presented her recommended budget for FY2023 to the Board of County Commissioners on May 19. The $2.1-billion recommended budget is an increase of $111 million, or 6 percent, over the current FY2022 operating budget. The recommended budget maintains the current tax rate of 61.69 cents, and funds programs and initiatives that align with the Board's priorities for FY2023. The priorities include: Affordable Housing, Education Attainment Gaps, Environmental Leadership, MECK Pre-K, Workforce Development, and Racial Disparities. It also funds the County's critical services and programs.

COVID-19 Booster Shots: With COVID-19 cases climbing, Mecklenburg County Public Health wants to remind the public to receive vaccine booster doses. Public Health will provide booster shots to the Board of County Commissioners at 5:30 p.m. before the public hearing. The vaccinations are intended to encourage residents to receive a booster shot. Residents can visit MeckNC.gov/COVID-19 to find the nearest location to receive a free COVID-19 booster dose.

Budget and Public Policy Meeting: The Board of County Commissioners will also discuss the budget at its regular Budget and Public Policy meeting on Tuesday, May 24. That meeting begins at 2:30 p.m. in Room 267 of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 East Fourth Street, Charlotte, NC  28202.

The Fiscal Year 2023 budget will take effect July 1, 2022.
