BOCCCommunity Support Services Honors Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Advocates across Mecklenburg County come together every October to raise awareness about domestic violence. This provides an opportunity to educate the community on the pattern of abusive behaviors that alter the lives of too many of our neighbors, friends and families.

Community Support Services (CSS) has been working hard with various County partners to ensure that victims and survivors are supported, and awareness is raised. Highlights of the month include a domestic violence prayer vigil, the Domestic Violence Advocacy Council's Awareness March, Wells Fargo’s Duke Energy Center illuminating purple and a Domestic Violence Employers Workshop. Check out these and other events on our Domestic Violence Awareness Month Calendar of Events online.

An average of one in four people will experience dating or domestic violence in their lifetime. CSS is proud to deliver year-round domestic violence services to promote a healthier, safer and more equitable community for hundreds of people each year.

For more information about this month’s events, contact CSS Director Stacy M. Lowry at 980-314-8903.
Park and Recreation Master Plan Update

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to begin work on the Meck Playbook, a new comprehensive park and recreation master plan.

With consultant selection complete, the department is sharing past planning studies and readying for the consultant team’s initial visit this month. The project will include a full assessment of existing Park and Recreation facilities, a wide-ranging community engagement process, and recommendations on policy, facilities, and maintenance to inform the departments continued success over the next 10 years.

The master plan is scheduled for completion in early 2021. Interested residents are encouraged to visit, click on the Master Plan Information button, and share their contact information to be notified of upcoming master plan meetings and surveys.

For more information, contact Park and Recreation Director Lee Jones at 980-314-1017.
Employee Fest 2019 is this Thursday

Each year, we celebrate the hard work of County employees by holding a celebration known as Employee Fest. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 10, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Carowinds. Commissioners are invited to attend.

As in previous years, some County offices will remain open to prevent service interruption to residents. Staff that are required to work during the event will be honored in other ways for their dedication.

I would like to take this time to personally thank all of our employees for everything they do on a daily basis for Mecklenburg County! Without their tireless efforts, we would not be able to provide such a high level of service to our residents and visitors.

If you have questions about Employee Fest, please let me know.
