Mecklenburg County Receives National Budget Award

GFOA logoThe Mecklenburg County Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has won another Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. The award was given by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for FY2018-2019. This year marks the 27th consecutive year that OMB has received this honor.

To qualify for the budget award, the division had to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Those guidelines help GFOA assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communication tool. Production of this year's 500-page Budget Book was an exhaustive team effort that took several months to complete.

In 2018, the County also received the GFOA Award for Excellence for exemplary use of GFOA's Best Practice of Budget Monitoring and Reporting Process.

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to inspire state and local governments to prepare high-quality budget documents that reflect the guidelines of the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting. The association designates individuals who have experience in public-sector budgeting to review each document that is submitted to the Budget Awards Program.
