​Mecklenburg County Announces COVID Ambassador Positions

Mecklenburg County is seeking temporary COVID Ambassadors to provide COVID-19 prevention guidance to businesses, citizens, and community groups located within Mecklenburg County related to local, state and federal rules and orders uniquely focused on COVID-19.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides community outreach and education in accordance to the most current county, state, and federal regulations concerning COVID-19.
  • Engages with businesses, citizens, and community groups, and responds to citizens regarding COVID-19 questions and provides strategies to the community to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
  • Communicates with various agencies regarding COVID-19 matters and reporting to county leadership of progress.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience: Health Education, Communication or Community Organizing
  • Education: Bachelor's degree preferred 
  • Equivalent Education & Experience Accepted? Yes


 Licenses and Certification:

Valid Driver's License. Must be able to obtain and maintain County Operator Permit.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of state, federal laws, county ordinances, executive orders and proclamations related to COVID-19.
  • Knowledge of most current terminology used in public health situations and understanding of latest reports related to COVID-19.
  • Knowledge of personal protective equipment (PPE). (Current CDC Masking Recommendations)
  • Knowledge of current COVID-19 guidance on social distancing and prevention.


 NOTE: Much of this information and knowledge will be provided once hired.

Skilled in:

  • Motivational techniques- methods used to encourage clients to follow through with recommendations.
  • Field evaluation techniques and applying mandated rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, customer service, and public speaking.
  • Time management; ability to work independently from supervision while managing an extensive workload.
  • Motivating a sometimes unreceptive and uninformed diverse population, including community members, business owners and other local agencies to modify behavior toward improving health and safety related to COVID-19.

  • Planning and Organizing – Establishing courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently.
  • Collaboration – Working effectively and cooperatively with others; establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
  • Communication & Education – Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain messaging.
  • Managing Conflict – Dealing effectively with others in hostile situations; using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict between two or more people. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Moderate noise is typical for the work environment for this job. Will work irregular hours (Afternoons, Evenings, and Weekends). May need to wear protective equipment and subject to outdoor weather conditions.
