​Mecklenburg County’s HOMES Program Deadline Extended


​Mecklenburg County homeowners have more time to apply for the HOMES Program. The deadline was extended by the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners to November 30, 2020.

Helping Out Mecklenburg's homeowners with Economic Support, (HOMES) is a public assistance program designed to assist low to moderate income qualified Mecklenburg County homeowners keep their homes by providing financial assistance.

The Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners approved the program's deadline extension and changing the income threshold during Wednesday night's Board meeting on November 4, 2020. There is a total of $250,000 in assistance available. 

"As of November 3, we have received 292 applications, we’ve approved 95 and so far we’ve allocated $32,494," said County Manager Dena R. Diorio.

The County Assessor's Office, the Office of the Tax Collector and the Department of Social Services are working together to implement the program. To share information about the program and how to apply, here is a flyer. Eligible homeowners:

  • live in Mecklenburg County.
  • own a residential property or occupy a property with a qualifying life estate.
  • have lived in this primary residence for the past three consecutive years.
  • do not have more than one delinquent property tax bill in the last three years.
  • total household income does not exceed 80% of the Area Median Income set by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). For example, a family of four's household income limit is $66,800.
