​County Manager Recommends $2.1 Billion Budget for FY2023 


Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio presented her recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2023 to the Board of County Commissioners. 


The $2.1-billion recommended budget is an increase of $111 million, or 5 percent, over the current FY2022 operating budget. 


The recommended budget maintains the current tax rate of 61.69 cents and funds programs and initiatives that align with the Board’s priorities for FY2023. The priorities include: Affordable Housing, Education Attainment Gaps, Environmental Leadership, MECK Pre-K, Workforce Development, and Racial Disparities.

The public will have an opportunity to provide input on the County Manager’s budget recommendations for FY2023 before it is adopted on June 22.A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. in the Meeting Chamber of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, 600 East Fourth Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.

The Board of County Commissioners has scheduled straw vote sessions for June 15 and 16. The Board is scheduled to adopt the Fiscal Year 2023 budget at its regular meeting on June 22 at 6 p.m. The public hearing, straw vote sessions and adoption meeting can all be viewed at 


The Fiscal Year 2023 budget will take effect July 1, 2022.
