Manufacturer Announces Major Expansion in Mecklenburg County

Chair Scarborough and Commissioner Ridenhour at press conferenceToday, Gov. Roy Cooper and County leaders announced the expansion of Dentsply Sirona in Mecklenburg County. The professional dental product manufacturer will invest $3 million to establish its commercial sales hub in Charlotte. The company currently employs 145 people in North Carolina. This new hub, located at 13320 Ballantyne Corporate Place in Charlotte, will create 320 jobs in Mecklenburg over three years.

The hub will add positions in sales, customer service, clinical education, marketing and executive roles. Once all vacant positions have been filled, the estimated payroll will be $23 million. Salaries are anticipated to be above the Mecklenburg County average wage. This move also allows for Dentsply Sirona’s Charlotte team to operate out of one facility.

“Mecklenburg County is pleased to welcome and support Dentsply Sirona’s growth in our community. It’s a testament to the workforce and business climate of the County that Dentsply Sirona chose this location,” said Ella Scarborough, chair of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. “This decision has far-reaching impacts as the significant number of visitors who come to this site will be able to see firsthand what makes Mecklenburg County a great place for business.”

The company’s expansion in Mecklenburg County was made possible, in part, by a Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee. Over the course of the 12-year grant term, the project will grow the state’s economy by an estimated $959 million.

Mecklenburg County is supporting the investment through a Business Investment Program grant of $43,436 over five years. The County estimates an additional $700,000 in net revenue over the five-year grant. The N.C. General Assembly, the North Carolina Community College System and the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce also partnered with the N.C. Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of N.C. on this project.

“We are excited to grow in North Carolina with the establishment of a U.S. commercial hub in Charlotte for our sales activities and the ongoing educational programs offered through our Dentsply Sirona Academy,” said Don Casey, Chief Executive Officer of Dentsply Sirona.
