Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte announced today that Stratifyd, a technology start-up founded in Mecklenburg in 2015, will expand its presence in the County by adding at least 200 jobs to its current workforce and moving to a new 30,000-square-foot office located within an opportunity zone in the FreeMoreWest neighborhood.
Stratifyd was launched by former University of North Carolina at Charlotte professor Derek Wang and students, Li Yu and Thomas Kraft. The company began conducting government-funded research on the ways augmented intelligence could ingest, analyze and visualize structured and unstructured data. Stratifyd is one of the fastest-growing technology firms in Mecklenburg. The company has doubled its number of employees over the past year and has a customer base primarily made of Fortune 1500 companies.
“Mecklenburg County is proud to support the growth of Stratifyd from a start-up in 2015, to adding at least 200 employees,” said George Dunlap, chairman of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. "Their growth represents economic growth for our entire county. Stratifyd is another example that shows how Mecklenburg County has the talent, the entrepreneurial ecosystem, the business-friendly climate and most importantly the higher education infrastructure that allows cutting-edge technology companies to reach their full potential.”
Over the past year, Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte have partnered to bring over 7,900 news jobs to Charlotte. Stratifyd is the latest company to announce a significant expansion or relocation in Mecklenburg. Last week, Microsoft announced an expansion of its location, joining Lowe’s, Honeywell, Better.com, BB&T, SunTrust, and many other companies expanding in and relocating to the area.
"It's amazing to see the rapid growth of Charlotte, from my years of research at UNC Charlotte to now, and it’s an honor to be a part of it," Wang said. "Our success is a true testament to our talented team, who are dedicated to challenging the status quo and pushing the boundaries of technology.”
Stratifyd has been a leader in artificial intelligence and machine learning technology in Mecklenburg since it was founded. The company has participated in career fairs, hosted hackathons, and is a business sponsor for the UNC Charlotte College of Computer and Informatics. Stratifyd also works with Carolina Fintech Hub’s Workforce Investment Network to create new pathways for untapped talent, partners with the Dottie Rose Foundation to host Girls in Technology and plans to donate one percent of its topline revenue to invest back into the Charlotte community.
