Prayer Vigil to be Held in Honor of Domestic Violence Victims

10/3/2018

Domestic Violence Awareness MonthOctober is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every October advocates throughout Mecklenburg County come together to raise awareness about domestic violence. In honor of the survivors and those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, a Prayer Vigil will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at Little Rock AME Zion Church (401 N. McDowell St., Charlotte) from 7 – 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The vigil is part of a monthlong campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence in the community. In addition to the reading of the names, the vigil will also honor Romana Brant, who lost her life to domestic violence. Information will be provided about the scholarship fund that is available for families that are in transition because of domestic violence. This is a great opportunity for community members to partner with Mecklenburg County, Speaking in the Key of We, and Little Rock AME Zion Church and join the movement to end violence.

An average of one in four people will experience dating or domestic violence in their lifetime. Mecklenburg County Community Support Services’ (CSS) Prevention and Intervention Services Division has been working with community partners to educate people on the abusive behaviors that damage the lives of several residents and families.

In addition to the year-round domestic violence services CSS provides, all month long there will be community events, including an awareness march, corporate presentations, fundraisers and more. View the CSS Domestic Violence Awareness Month Calendar of Events online
