October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Every October advocates throughout Mecklenburg County come together to raise awareness about domestic violence. In honor of the survivors and those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, a Prayer Vigil will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 at Little Rock AME Zion Church (401 N. McDowell St., Charlotte) from 7 – 9 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
The vigil is part of a monthlong campaign to raise awareness about domestic violence in the community. In addition to the reading of the names, the vigil will also honor Romana Brant, who lost her life to domestic violence. Information will be provided about the scholarship fund that is available for families that are in transition because of domestic violence. This is a great opportunity for community members to partner with Mecklenburg County, Speaking in the Key of We, and Little Rock AME Zion Church and join the movement to end violence.
