Congratulations to Mecklenburg County employees Melissa Zhiss and Marcus Boyd on receiving the Chief’s Award for Excellence in Policing, for their work with the HOP Program, also known as the Homeless Outreach Prevention Program. The program is a collaborative project run by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Mecklenburg County.
Zhiss and Boyd, who work in Criminal Justice Services Forensic Evaluations Unit - received the award on Wednesday along with five Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers.
Zhiss launched the HOP Program in March 2017. The goal of the program is to identify homeless individuals with disabilities who are involved with or could become involved with the criminal justice system and connect them with necessary resources such as income and housing.
Program coordinators meet monthly with CMPD officers and partner agencies to design plans to help connect these individuals with necessary resources in hopes of keeping them from re-entering the criminal justice system.
Congratulations on a job well done!
