Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services Announces ‘Creek Week’ to Celebrate Local Creeks

Saturday, March 23, 2019 through Saturday, March 30, 2019 will be Creek Week in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Creek Week is a celebration of local streams, which includes a full week of fun activities, events and volunteer opportunities for all ages. From “Storytime with Stormy” at your local library branch to stream cleanup events, there will be something for everyone.

The celebration will kick off on Saturday morning, March 23 with a Volunteer Stream Monitoring Workshop, which will teach volunteers how to identify and report pollution problems in our creeks.  Activities will continue with 20 different workshops and events throughout the week at various locations.

The week of celebration will conclude with the annual “Big Spring Clean” on Saturday, March 30 with stream cleanup sites located throughout the County. Last year’s Big Spring Clean resulted in over 300 volunteers picking up an estimated 9.2 tons of litter from our creeks and lakes.
