Mecklenburg County received a generous donation of 35 gallons of essential hand sanitizer from the Mecklenburg County Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Board on Friday, Aug. 7. The ABC Board acquired a substantial donation of hand sanitizer from the North Carolina ABC Commission and offered the sanitizer to area nonprofits, in addition to the 35 gallons given to the Mecklenburg County Health Department.
The donation is part of an effort to create community partnerships to improve public health and safety. The County will use the donation to supplement current hand sanitizer inventory being utilized by Public Health Department staff providing patient services, conducting inspections, staffing childcare centers, outreach and case management, and other support services.
In instances when soap and water are not available, alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol can be effective against COVID-19. Hand sanitizers should be stored out of reach of children, in temperatures below 105 degrees.
