County Manager Dena R. Diorio Recommends $1.99 Billion Budget for FY2022  

Mecklenburg County Manager Dena R. Diorio presented her recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2022 to the Board of County Commissioners Thursday.   

The $1.99-billion Recommended Budget is an increase of $96 million, or 5 percent, over the current Fiscal Year 2021 operating budget.   

The recommended budget maintains the current tax rate of 61.69 cents and funds programs and initiatives that align with the Board’s 5 Priorities for Fiscal Year 2022. The Priorities include: Expand Affordable Housing, Advance Environmental Leadership, Expand MECK Pre-K, Improve Workforce Development, Reduce Education Attainment Gaps.

The public will have one final opportunity to give their input on the County Manager’s budget recommendations for Fiscal Year 2022 before it is adopted in June.  

A Public Hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. The public hearing may be viewed on the Government Channel (Spectrum Channel 16) or by visiting

The Board will hold a Straw Vote session on the Recommended Budget on May 26-27, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.   

The Board is scheduled to adopt the budget for Fiscal Year 2022 on Tuesday, June 1. The Fiscal Year 2022 Budget will take effect July 1, 2021.
