​County Announces Independence Day Closings


Mecklenburg County offices and services will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021 for the Independence Day holiday. 

This includes all units of the Department of Social Services, the Tax Office, the Elections Office, the Register of Deeds Office, and the Land Use and Environmental Services Agency offices. 

The Department of Social Services hotlines operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect. To report abuse of seniors or the disabled, call 704-336-CARE (2273). To report abuse, neglect or human trafficking of children, call 980-31-HELPS (43577).  

The Health Department will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021. 

Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Offices & Full-Service Drop-Off Centers will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021. All Full-Service Drop-Off Centers will re-open on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.  

The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County towns may provide residential collection service. Residents should check their respective collectors’ web sites for details.  

Park and Recreation: 

    • All traditional recreation centers will be closed on Sunday, July 4. Tyvola Senior Center will be closed on Monday, July 5.  
    • Grayson Skate Park: Closed Sunday, July 4, Open Monday, July 5, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.   
    • Eastway Regional Recreation Center will be open Saturday, July 3, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.,  
    • Closed Sunday, July 4 and Open Monday, July 5, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.  
    • Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center will be open Saturday, July 3, 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Closed Sunday, July 4, open Monday, July 5, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.  
    • Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center will be open Saturday, July 3, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. 
    • Cordelia Pool will be open Sunday, July 4, 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. 
    • Nature centers are closed on July 4 and July  
    • Nature preserves are open  


CharMeck 311 will be closed on Monday, July 5, 2021. Outside regular business hours, CharMeck 311 callers can report water, sewer, storm water and animal issues via an automated service that dispatches assistance. Residents can also submit service requests online 24 hours a day or access dozens of city services by downloading the CLT+ mobile app. Please call 911 for any emergencies.
