Community Survey FY2018 Results Now Available

Results from the Mecklenburg County FY18 Community Survey are now available. The survey is a public opinion poll that County leaders use to assess awareness and perceptions of County services.

The County Manager’s Strategic Planning & Evaluation Team has conducted this annual survey for 16 years, asking a random sample of 1,116 households for feedback on a wide range of areas including quality of life, community engagement for policy/decision making, affordable housing. Survey respondents represent various ages, genders, races/ethnicities, education and income levels, and occupations.

This year’s survey posed new questions to residents about the level of support for Pre-K education, awareness of the upcoming revaluation and gauged awareness of Board of County Commissioners meeting broadcasts. The survey presentation contains trend data and some benchmark questions that compare Mecklenburg County survey results to national survey results.

The survey report includes a breakdown of responses for each question, including crosstabs by several groups.  Report highlights include:

  • Residents’ preferred source of County information increased by five percent for Facebook, and decreased five percent for television.
  • Residents feel that affordable housing and education are the most important issues that Mecklenburg County is facing.
  • Park & Rec program usage decreased by 10 percent.
