​Board of County Commissioners Appoints New Clerk

​The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners has appointed Kristine Smith as its new Clerk.Kristine Smith

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) appointed Smith during its regular meeting on June 1 and she was sworn in shortly afterward. She previously served as Interim Clerk to the BOCC and Deputy Clerk to the BOCC. Smith will officially begin her role as Clerk to the Board on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

She joined Mecklenburg County in 2016 as a Board Support Assistant in the County Manager’s Office. She will replace the former Clerk, Emily Kunze.

Smith is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Technology, where she received her associate degree in paralegal studies. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of County Clerks and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.

The BOCC selected Smith for the position after a nationwide search and extensive recruitment process.
