Mecklenburg County Soil and Water Conservation joins TreesCharlotte in hosting its annual tree seedling sale. The sale will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. until noon (or until sold out) at the NC Cooperative Extension Center at 1418 Armory Drive in Charlotte.
A variety of native species will be offered including, Buttonbush, Highbush Blueberry, Red Chokeberry, Spicebush, Sweet Pepperbush, Winterberry Holly, Yellowroot, Eastern Redbud, Fringe Tree, Flowering Dogwood and more. Prices range from $2 to $5.
Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District in collaboration with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services will also have rain barrels for sale. A 60-gallon barrel costs $105 and an 80-gallon costs $120. Both prices include tax.
TreesCharlotte, established in 2012, is a non-profit organization, created as a public/private collaboration dedicated to planting trees, primarily through volunteer efforts. They have been the driving force behind the bold initiative of achieving 50 percent tree canopy coverage by 2050. TreeCharlotte also educates Charlotte’s residents on the importance of the canopy and ways to plant and preserve trees.
The Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District is a local organization working with residents, agencies, and business owners to plan and direct programs for the conservation and development of natural resources.
