​Splash into Summer at an Outdoor Pool, Sprayground or Ramsey Creek Beach

kids swimming at outdoor poolAs summer approaches, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation offers you the chance to cool off at an outdoor pool, sprayground or Ramsey Creek Beach. Spraygrounds open Friday, May 24 and outdoor pools and Ramsey Creek Beach open Saturday, May 25.
 
Operating hours for aquatic facilities are as follows:
 
Spraygrounds (FREE) will operate from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Locations include:

  • Cordelia Park, 2100 North Davidson St.
  • First Ward Park, 301 E. Seventh St.
  • Latta Park, 601 East Park Ave.
  • Nevin Park, 6100 Statesville Road
  • Romare Bearden Park, 300 S. Church St.
  • West Charlotte Recreation Center, 2400 Kendall Drive
  • Veterans Park, 2136 Central Ave.

 

A sprayground will also open at the new Clarks Creek Community Park on June 1.

Outdoor pools ($1 per person) include Cordelia Pool, 2100 N. Davidson St., Charlotte and Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center, 2014 Statesville Ave., Charlotte. Pools will operate from noon to 7 p.m. throughout the summer:

  • Weekends: May 25 – Sept. 1
  • Weekdays: June 10 – Aug. 23
  • Holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day

 

Ramsey Creek Beach, 18441 Nantz Road, Cornelius, will operate 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout the summer:

  • Weekends: May 25 – Sept. 1
  • Weekdays: June 10 – Aug. 23
  • Holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day

 

Throughout the summer, a park entrance fee will be collected at Ramsey Creek Park. View details

Free Shuttle Service to Ramsey Creek Beach
Park and Recreation and CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System) will offer a FREE shuttle from the Cornelius Park and Ride lot, 20300 Sefton Park Road to Ramsey Creek Beach on holiday weekends (Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day). The shuttle will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Free Swim Lessons at the Outdoor Pools
Beginning Saturday, June 15, you will be able to sign up your child (ages 3-12) for FREE swim lessons at either of the outdoor pools. Registration will be taken every Saturday starting at 11 a.m. until filled for the following week only and must be done in person. Children being registered for swim lessons must be present at the time of registration. All reservations are first come, first served.

World’s Largest Swimming Lesson
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is giving kids the chance to learn to swim and help set a world record at the same time. On June 20, Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center will once again serve as a host site for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson. Registration begins at 9 a.m., lessons are at 10 and 11 a.m.
