Mecklenburg County has won 16 Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The NACo Achievement Awards recognize innovative county government programs that increase services to residents. 2019 marks the 49th year of the awards program.
Staff from various County departments submitted award applications this past spring for programs that were implemented during 2018. Among the criteria, eligible programs must offer new services to county residents, fill gaps in service availability, or tap new revenue sources. Qualified entries should also provide information that facilitates effective public policy making or improve the administration of an existing program.

The achievement awards were presented at the NACo Annual Conference in Clark County, Nevada on July 14. The BOCC will recognize award winners during the two regular meetings in September.
Founded in 1935, NACo connects counties across the U.S. through a membership network of 40,000 county elected officials and 3.6 million county employees. The organization encourages county officials to advocate for county government priorities in federal policymaking, optimize county and taxpayer resources and cost savings, and enhance the public’s understanding of county government.
