Mecklenburg County will mail 2018 bills for real property, individual personal property and business personal property taxes by July 30, 2018. Bills are due Sept. 1, 2018, and can be paid without interest through Jan. 7, 2019. These bills are not associated with the 2019 revaluation. Revaluation notices will be mailed in early 2019, and bills will be sent next summer.
This year, 410,923 tax bills will be mailed to taxpayers throughout the County. For certain properties whose value or tax records are under review, the respective tax bills will be subsequently mailed as they are processed.
All tax bills paid on or after Jan. 8, 2019 will be assessed interest at a rate of 2 percent for January. Additional interest in the amount of 0.75 percent will be charged for February and every month thereafter until paid. For those with mortgage escrow accounts, their real property tax bills are sent directly to the mortgage holder for payment, with the owner receiving a property tax notification from the Office of the Tax Collector. New this year: Effective July 1, 2018, Mecklenburg County established six Law Enforcement Service Districts (LESDs) in the unincorporated area of the County and abolished the countywide LESD. The newly established LESD taxes replace the former LESD tax. Property owners in the unincorporated area will find the LESD tax included on their bill in the Bill Line Items section. The description will appear as POLICE (Jurisdiction) TAX.
The reverse side of the tax bill contains a comprehensive list of frequently asked questions. Property owners who have further questions concerning their 2018 tax bill can contact CharMeck311 by dialing 311 within Mecklenburg County or 704-336-7600 from outside the County.
