It may be two months away, but Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is already getting ready for one of its most anticipated family events of 2018 – the 10th annual Fairy House Festival at Latta Plantation Nature Preserve.
The event, which draws thousands each year, will take place Saturday, Feb. 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain, snow or shine.
Beginning in 2018, individuals interested in attending the festival will need to purchase a ticket prior to the event. Tickets are $5 per person for ages 5 and up and free for children 4 and under. Tickets can be purchased starting Jan. 1 at all three nature centers (Latta Plantation, McDowell or Reedy Creek) or online at www.parkandrec.com. Tickets will sell quickly and will not be sold the day of the event. The nature center and preserve will be open for other activities, but due to the festival, parking will be limited.
During the festival, participants will be able to enter a contest to build the best fairy house using natural materials from the forest. Other activities include crafts, a fairy selfie station, geocaching, nature education activities, storytelling and much more.
Festival goers will also be able to enjoy free shuttle service to the event, free popcorn and exclusive access to the festival at the preserve. For more information, contact the Latta Plantation Nature Center and Preserve at 980-314-1129.
