​11th Annual Crowns of Enterprise Awards Program Recognizes Local Certified Minority, Women, Small Business Enterprises

In celebration of Small Business Month, 6 local businesses were honored at the 11th Annual Crowns of Enterprise Awards virtual ceremony on May 12, 2022. 

Hosted by the Mecklenburg County Office of Economic Development and City of Charlotte Business INClusion, the program recognizes businesses demonstrating exemplary leadership and sound business strategies. This year's event honored outstanding businesses in the following categories for 2022:

    • Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) of the Year
    • Certified Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) of the Year
    • Certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE) of the Year
    • Prime Contractor of the Year
    • Diversity Advocate of the Year
    • Media Personality/Outlet of the Year
       

Host Rocio Gonzalez-Zornosa, Executive Director of the Women's Business Center of Charlotte, presided over the ceremony which included remarks from Mecklenburg County Commission Chairman George Dunlap (District 3), Mecklenburg County Commissioner Susan Rodriguez-McDowell (District 6), Charlotte Mayor Pro Tem Julie Eiselt and City Council Member Malcolm Graham. 

The award winners are as follows:   

    1. Certified Minority Business Enterprise of the Year for 2022 - R.J. Leeper Construction, LLC
    2. Certified Small Business Enterprise of the Year for 2022 - 1202 Beatties Ford, LLC
    3. Certified Woman Business Enterprise of the Year for 2022 - Sunshine Media Network
    4. Diversity Advocate of the Year for 2022 - Lissette Velez, Hispanic Contractors Association of the Carolinas (HCAC) 
    5. Prime Contractor of the Year for 2022 - Viridian Marketing
    6. Media Personality/Outlet of the Year for 2022 - WFAE 90.7
