Livable Meck

Mecklenburg County is one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. Our County is expected to earn 1 million more residents by 2050, doubling the County’s population in 2015. Livable Meck is an effort to address that important opportunity.

Livable Meck is a joint initiative between Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, the Towns of Davidson, Huntersville, Pineville, Mint Hill, and Matthews, and more than 100 private and non-profit sector partners. The goal of Livable Meck is to work collaboratively toward implementing a community-wide unified vision that informs and guides how our communities grow.

Recognizing the potential partnership between local government and community partners, and the benefits of having a coordinated plan for the community, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners approved moving forward with this initiative in early 2015.

Livable Meck is focused on 4 key areas:
  1. Engage residents and other community stakeholders in processes that identify a unified vision that guides community growth.
  2. Facilitate collaborative solution-making amongst the community’s private, non-profit, and government organizations.
  3. Measure the livability of Mecklenburg County’s communities using carefully identified indicators and measures.
  4. Communicate the community’s stories and progress as it aspires to be a coalition of livable communities.

Livable Meck will result in new and better ways for local governments to work together and collaborate with community partners. It will improve the quality of life for the entire Mecklenburg community.  For more information please visit http://livablemeck.com.
