The opportunities available to you can influence how long you live. Lack of access to nutritious foods, transportation, recreation facilities, and healthcare options can worsen pre-existing conditions. The Office of Community Engagement under the Mecklenburg County Public Health Department has made a continuous effort to develop and implement a health and wellness strategy that can change these odds.
Our strategy includes authentic community engagement and targets areas in the community with the greatest needs. We build partnerships with faith-based organizations, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, the American Heart Association and more. These relationships are key to educating adults and children and building a culture of health.
Together we can create a more knowledgeable and physically active culture and decrease the risks of heart disease and obesity. Making this kind of commitment to our community shows residents we are committed to helping them pursue better health and an improved quality of life.
High-risk regions within Mecklenburg County are designated as Public Health Priority Areas. Mecklenburg County PHPAs contain 210,000 residents.
