What is the difference between a formal and informal construction project?
The overall construction value for formal construction projects is greater or equal to $300,000. The overall construction value for informal construction projects is less than $300,000.
What is the bidding process for formal and informal construction projects?
Subject to the terms of the specification, formal construction projects are open to everyone to bid. The Board of County Commissioners awards formal construction contracts. The County Manager is authorized to award informal contracts. Bidding of informal contracts is by invitation.
How do I know when a project is being bid?
An advertisement is place in the Charlotte Observer and Charlotte Post. Notification of bidding opportunities is also distributed by AGC, Dodge, and CMD to its members. The MWSBE Program is currently working on posting a master list of County business and procurement opportunities on this website.
How are construction contracts awarded?
Contracts shall be awarded to the lowest responsible, responsive bidders, taking into consideration quality, performance, the time specified in the bids for performance of the contract, and compliance with N.C.G.S. 143-128.2.
How can I find out what formal projects are being bid?
The scope of the project is stated in the newspaper advertisements, and in the "Notice to Bidders" & "Summary of Work." AGC, Dodge, and CMD also have copies of the bid documents. Five ways to bid construction projects are: separate prime bidding; single prime bidding; dual bidding; construction manager at risk; and alternative construction methods pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-135.
What type of insurance is required for construction projects?
All construction projects require: automobile; comprehensive general liability; workman's compensation & occupational disease; and builder's risk insurance.
