Who We Are
DSS Employment and Career Services is a part of the Economic Services Division of the Department of Social Services. Our Work First Employment Services and RISE2Work programs engage qualified customers to provide job search assistance, short-term training and supportive services needed to empower and assist customers in securing employment to move towards independence. Only qualified parents receiving
Work First Family Assistance will be assisted with childcare. Employment & Career Services provide retention services for up to four months for eligible Work First Employment Services and RISE to work customers upon gaining employment.

Work First Employment Services
Provides Work First Family Assistance customers with job training, child care services, job coaching and mentoring to assist them on their path to self-sufficiency.
RISE 2 Work (FNS Employment & Training Program):
RISE 2 Work is a federal program meant to support employment and training activities to increase FNS recipient’s skills, careers, and ultimately their families’ financial well-being. The RISE 2 Work Program in Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services offers:
E&T Social Workers to provide guidance, resources and referrals to employment and skill building programs.
And through our partner agencies: Occupational skills trainings and certifications, job search support, High School completion, computer and other skills training programs, work experience and volunteer opportunities, job readiness services, resume building, career planning, assistance with transportation for participation in the job programs, and more.
