LIEAP is a federally funded program that provides a one-time vendor payment to help eligible households pay their heating bills. The Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services will be accepting applications for all eligible households December 1 through March 31 or until funds are exhausted.
Priority in eligibility is given to disabled persons receiving services through the Division of Aging and Adult Services, or households in which a member of the household is age 60 and older from December 1- 31.
Payments will be made directly to utility companies. Payments will not be made to the applicant. Everyone who is eligible must apply. No one will be automatically approved. All applicants are encouraged to continue to pay their utility bill as normal.
