The Office of the Tax Collector (OTC) developed a program for affordable housing as part of its overall
Tax Foreclosure Strategy. The program seeks to provide grants to purchase properties at foreclosure auction as well as utilize foreclosed properties for affordable housing. It represents a portion of the overall affordable housing strategy for Mecklenburg County. In developing its Affordable Housing Program, the OTC identified 4 Methods of Assistance ( click each image for a description):
Provides county funds to qualified organizations or agencies who bid on and win tax foreclosure property. Funds are paid after the deed is recorded to reimburse the organization or agency.
Provides county funds to qualified organizations or agencies who bid on and win tax foreclosure property. Funds are paid at closing to closing attorney.
County acquired tax foreclosed property is sold to qualified organizations or agencies. The sale price is set by the Board of County Commissioners who approve the sale.
County acquired tax foreclosed property is donated to qualified organizations or agencies. The Board of County Commissioners approve the donation.
Are you interested in partnering with the OTC to provide affordable housing? The Office of the Tax Collector (OTC) is seeking organizations and agencies who work with low- to middle-income individuals to provide affordable housing in Mecklenburg County. Qualifying clients' income should meet or fall below the 80% of Area Median Income (AMI) Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
