The U.S. Constitution requires that local governing bodies that use electoral districts ensure those districts are substantially equal in population every 10 years following the return of the decennial Census. Because the
Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners has true electoral districts, it is required to examine its districts every 10 years. The
2020 Census data was received in the fall of 2021, and Mecklenburg County must redistrict to correct population imbalances among its commissioner districts. This process must be completed by
November 17, 2021.
